I have a rather convoluted attitude to all-inclusive tourism.
On the one hand, I chafe at the thought that one is cloistered away from the happenings of the country I'm visiting and on the other, it is the perfect getaway from all of life stresses. I find that in those moments when my conflict arises, the thought of having already paid most of my bill before I even got here to Jamaica, comforts my unease.

Whether you are as conflicted as me in having to choose between sinking into the lap of luxury and just vegging out or getting out and about for some of the other sights, a great place to start unwinding is Sandals Whitehouse European Village and Spa.

Built on 500 acres of primo seafront inside a forest of mangrove trees which are essential in preventing catastrophic erosion of the shoreline as well as providing a nursery for young and immature marine life, Sandals Whitehouse is a miniature paradise that boasts a 2 mile long white-sand beach along Jamaica's uncommercialized South Coast where the pace of life is slower and the style less urban. The hotel has no close neighbours and it is relatively easy to make-believe that one is alone on a small island. Jamaicans are friendly, sophisticated people who are very comfortable with international visitors and your experience at Sandals will no doubt reinforce that thought.

The theme of the hotel is a contrast between the grandeur of the old Europe of Italy, France and Holland and the stunning natural beauty of the Bluefields, Belmont and Whitehouse areas of Westmoreland in Southwest Jamaica where the mountains are hazy blue, the waters turquoise and the vegetation emerald green.

The hotel complex consists of 3 villages - inspired by Dutch, French and Italian village styles and architectural elements and all offer luxurious oceanfront rooms and suites as well as the (pricier) top tier suites that come with personalized butler services. It offers cuisine from a wide variety of sources through its 7 themed restaurants and the entertainment choices are as eclectic as a piano bar, a night-club as well as a beach bonfire or reggae on the catamaran. The point is that there is a personal experience waiting here for you and your friend to take back home. Then there is the Spa, ladies this is the place to go wild, with the range of services offered. There's the Massage Service, Body Treatment, Facial Treatment and The Nail Bar.

As with all things, moderation is always advised, especially on a holiday where things can take on a false air of magic unrelated to your life at home.

Sandals Whitehouse is also place for weddings and honeymoons and the hotel is built to take advantage of the stunning sunrise and unforgettable sunsets.with landscaping and architecture.

Luxury, Concierge, Butler, Penthouse. These are the terms used to describe the 'per person/per night' accommodation which pretty much sums up the price differences. There are, of course, variations, personalized for your situation, the wedding/honeymoon, the business holiday, family vacation, etc

Specials offered by the hotel can include deep discounts, fare rebates and other goodies that hotels like to offer its guests.

So, the next time you're up for a vacation, why not Jamaica and why not start planning now.
